Contractor & Freelancer FAQs
Should I operate as a limited company or sole trader?
It depends on your income level, risk appetite, and plans. Limited companies offer lower effective tax rates at higher income levels (12.5% CT vs 40%+ income tax), limited liability, and professional credibility. Sole trader status is simpler and cheaper at lower income levels. We advise on the right structure for you.
What expenses can I claim through my company?
Business expenses wholly and exclusively incurred for the purposes of the trade — including a proportion of home office costs, business mileage, professional subscriptions, and equipment. We advise on what is claimable and ensure expenses are properly recorded.
How much does contractor accounting cost?
Our monthly contractor service covers company, VAT, payroll, bookkeeping, and tax returns for a fixed monthly fee. Annual accounts and CRO filings are a separate engagement — contact us and we will quote for both together.
